COVID-19 Update

June 29, 2020

Unfortunately, we have seen a significant rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in our area and Governor Cooper has extended the Phase 2 restrictions. We were hoping to resume in-person worship on July 5th, but because of this rise we have decided to push back our date for in-person worship to August 2. This date is tentative, based upon positive progress toward defeating COVID-19.

When we do resume in-person worship services, the following procedures will be in place:

  • There will only be a Morning Worship Service at 11:00am at that time. No other in-person activities will resume yet.

  • Everyone will be asked to use one of three entrances: either door to the Sanctuary Narthex, the Dyer Street entrance to the Education Building, or the entrance nearest the Van Shelter in the Educational Building.

  • Unnecessary areas of our campus will be closed off for use.

  • Before entering the Sanctuary, every person should stop by the Greeting Stations (in the Narthex and Parlor) to use hand sanitizer and pick up a mask for use if you do not have one. It is requested that everyone wear a mask during worship.

  • There will be no nursery or children's activities. Families will worship together in the Sanctuary.

  • Some pews and sections of pews will be "taped off" to provide adequate spacing during worship. Everyone is asked to maintain 6 feet of separation except with those in your household.

  • Offering will be collected in boxes upon entering or exiting the Sanctuary.

  • Singing has one of the highest rates of transmission of virus-carrying water droplets. Therefore, we will not have a choir or congregational singing at this time. Music will be done by soloists or ensembles appropriately distanced.

Implementation of these procedures are the best way for us to be able to meet in person and still minimize exposure to coronavirus. If you are sick or experiencing any symptoms, you should not attend worship in person. Those who are in high-risks groups should consider whether they should begin attending at this time also. We will continue livestreaming our Worship Services for those who choose or have to worship at home.

At this time our plan is to resume in-person worship on August 2.
