Tammy Sawyer has devoted her life to serving God and serving others through faith, leadership, and compassionate ministry. She believes God prepares His servants through every season of life, and after decades of serving both the church and the community, she is answering God's call to pastoral ministry with a heart centered on Christ and His people.
With more than 30 years of leadership experience in communications, education, human resources, and community engagement, Tammy brings a unique blend of professional experience and servant leadership to ministry. She currently serves as Executive Director of Public Relations and Institutional Engagement at College of The Albemarle, where she works to strengthen relationships and build community partnerships through communication and marketing, and support the college's mission of transforming lives through education.
Her ministry journey has been rooted in lifelong service to the local church. Over the years, she has served in numerous leadership roles, including deacon, deaconess, moderator, vice moderator, lay leader, committee chair, Vacation Bible School director, and pastor search committee chair. She has led worship, served in youth ministry through various classes and activities, and organized outreach and fellowship ministries.
Beyond the church, Tammy is passionate about serving her community. She co-founded the ECP Backpacks program, which grew out of a program she initially founded for P.W. Moore in collaboration with Pearl Street Pentecostal Church. This program provides weekend meals to children experiencing food insecurity, and works alongside churches, schools, businesses, and community organizations to share Christ's love through meaningful acts of service.
As Interim Minister of First Baptist Church, Tammy is committed to faithfully preaching God's Word, walking alongside others in their faith journey, and helping people discover the hope, grace, and transforming love of Jesus Christ. Her prayer is that every person who enters First Baptist Church feels welcomed, encouraged, and inspired to grow in their relationship with Christ.
Tammy resides in Elizabeth City with her husband, Keith. She is the proud mother of her son, Caleb, and grateful to have Faith as her daughter-in-love. She considers it a privilege to serve alongside the First Baptist Church family during this season of ministry.

BILLY CAUDLE
Music Director & Organist
Billy really likes to make good music. In his role at First Baptist Church, making good music helps enhance the worship experience for everyone.
Outside of church, Billy always tries to improve things little bit. He gets up every morning with a goal of making our community just a little bit nicer and more interesting and entertaining for the folks that live here now. Through his various roles at churches, as an Elizabeth City City Councilor, and through interactions with others, he is able to move that idea forward each and every day.
Billy enjoys the water, so boating and swimming are his "go-to" hobbies, as well as making music.
